Ongoing transport planning and road safety engineering services

Our work for the BC Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure included assessing current and future requirements and all aspects of road safety engineering.

Opus has completed numerous road safety studies for the British Columbia Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure, the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia (ICBC) and various municipalities. The studies included day/night-time walk/cycle/drive-through as well as the examination of collision and traffic data to identify collision prone locations and context appropriate counter measures. Cost-benefit analyses are commonly completed using collision reduction factors to determine a prioritized list of safety improvements.

Opus' road safety team has experience completing road safety reviews on urban, suburban and rural roads, highways and at LRT crossings/stations. Opus' team understand how road users behave (walking, cycling, transit, personal vehicle, heavy vehicle) and how they interact in a roadway environment. A brief list regions where Opus has completed safety studies include:

  • Town of View Royal
  • District of Oak Bay
  • Sea to Sky Highway (BC Highway 99)
  • City of Surrey
  • Corporation of Delta
  • Vancouver Island Highways: 4, 14, 19, and 28
  • Town of Gibsons
  • Fort St John
  • City of Edmonton
